ReynHartsik (heartfelt, sincere) began with a desire to explore my Yiddish language roots. From my yeshiva upbringing to over two decades of work in the  klezmer and Yiddish music scene, I was very familiar with the sound of the language and repertoire  - yet hadr never truly endeavored to speak or sing it in earnest.  I invited my friend and multi-talented musician Deborah Sacks Mintz -  with whom I had been collaborating for years in the world of Jewish devotional music -  to join me in this quest. She enthusiastically agreed and ReynHartsik was born! 

To support our growth in Yiddish diction, we turned to poet, composer and scholar Josh Waletzky for invaluable coaching - moving us through the intricacies of this language’s beauty.  Over the months that followed, I composed and arranged settings of  poetry rooted in  the theme of “caregiving” - a theme that is at once personal to my own life and universal in the human experience. To give recorded form to these new arrangements, we are working in collaboration with renowned producer Benjamin Lazar Davis, whose expertise and creativity bring fresh sonic possibility to the music and poetry’s potential.

This project has been a powerful learning experience, exciting creative endeavor, and a lot of fun! It has also involved a deep investment of time, money, and emotional energy from our team; an investment in our unique musical approach delivered through the lens of our heritage.
